UWO Debating Society

Home

As the oldest accredited club on campus, our mission as an organization is to encourage and facilitate the acquisition and refinement of public speaking skills. Each year, the University of Western Ontario Debating Society strives to broaden the university debating experience for its members by participating in debates both on campus and throughout North America and abroad. With students from all faculties and walks of life, we thrive on the unique perspectives and contributions that each of our members bring forward.

The UWODS is very excited about its 2009-2010 season.  We'll be attending tournaments all across North America, including tournaments in Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, Edmonton and at Yale.  We're also excited to welcome debaters from across central Canada to the Leger Cup - the Central Canadian Championship - which is set to take place on the beautiful UWO campus in February.  In November, we're pleased to welcome a host of the province's finest high school debaters for a weekend at the annual UWO High School Canadian Parliamentary Debating Championships.

We build valuable public speaking, critical thinking and argumentation skills in our members.  Members of the UWODS practice these skills in weekly debates on a wide variety of current issues.  Participating in debate makes you a more confident speaker, teaches you to analyze issues quickly and effectively, and makes you more informed about the world around you.

So join us, please visit us at ClubsWeek, drop by one of our meetings, or send us an e-mail.
